Microneedling in Albuquerque

What is Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used to treat skin concerns, like enlarged pores, wrinkles, scars, acne scars, and stretch marks by stimulating collagen production. The procedure involves using a medical-grade device that repeatedly punctures the top layer of the skin with tiny, sterile needles. The damage helps stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. These proteins help to firm and smooth the skin.

What a microneeding treatment is like?

The Evo microneedling pen is a FDA-approved device that uses sterile, individually-sealed, disposable needle cartridges for optimal patient safety and comfort. Every microneedle tip is made up of 14 stainless steel needles. The device has the option of changing the depth and speed of the needle to create a treatment that is tailored to your end results. The needles create small, micro-skin channels while stimulating the skin’s natural ability to heal itself and increasing the production of new collagen — which is the formation of strong, insoluble fibers that serve as connective tissue between cells.

These micro-skin channels carry up to 80% more topical nutrients applied to the skin during the treatment, allowing for deep penetration into the dermal fibroblasts, and feeding the cells found in the dermis and basal layers. This increases the absorption of active ingredients into the skin such as platelet-rich plasma, stimulating repair at a cellular level and accelerating the regeneration of the skin’s epidermal cells.

Who is a good candidate?

Because Evo microneedling is minimally invasive, it doesn’t cause significant wounding of the skin and isn’t light-based. Most people, no matter what their skin type, can safely undergo microneedling therapy with minimal risk of long-term adverse effects. Typically, important factors such as age or skin color don’t matter. Even areas of the body where the skin is typically thin can undergo treatment with some microneedling devices, the depth of penetration is easily regulated.

What can I expect before, during, and after treatment?

It is important to discontinue use of Retin A, Retinols, Vitamin A creams, and other topical medications for 3-5 days before your microneedling treatment.

Upon arrival, topical numbing combination of Lidocaine and Tetracaine will be applied for approximately 45-60 min prior to treatment starting. With the use of the topical numbing cream, you will be able to tell that something is being done with little to no discomfort.

Upon discharge, you will be given written instructions along with products to use for the following 3 days. During the skin’s healing process, your body produces fresh collagen to replace the damaged collagen, which rejuvenates your skin by increasing your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. The skin is typically “red” like a mild sunburn for 2-3 days.

When starting microneedling treatment you will see a correction or change with the first treatment but recommendations to achieve correction is to do a treatment once a month for a total of 4 treatments and then maintenance treatments once every 4-6 months. The beginning of rebuilding collagen takes 30-45 days which may result in an overall improvement in the texture and tightness of your skin by “filling in the lines,” and removing the wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks, full correction may not be noted for up to 2-3 months post last treatment.
